Understanding car insurance coverage is something that many of us just cannot fathom. It seems when you just figure it out something changes within your policy and the confusion begins once again. For most trying to figure out car insurance is just a losing battle. Today we are going to make it much easier for the average person to understand car insurance. We will break it down for you so you know what you’re actually paying for and what it does. Let’s get started on understanding car insurance in your everyday life.

There are several types of car insurance and we will look at some of these right now. The first one we will take a look at is liability insurance. Bodily injury liability and property damage liability are the two types of liability insurance you will deal with the most. Bodily injury liability coverage will help pay for any medical or funeral expenses as the result of an accident that you happen to be responsible for. This coverage will cover passengers in your vehicle as long as it is your fault. States mandate the minimum coverage you should have, but always get more than you need.

Property damage liability covers damage to property that is caused by you or someone you let drive your vehicle. The state will mandate how much you need, but as with bodily injury always get more than the state minimum to be on the safe side. A vehicle can do a lot of damage so you want to make sure you have enough to pay for damages.

Collision coverage is used when someone else hits your vehicle or an object does. If damage does happen to your car with this type of insurance you will have to pay a deductible. This will come out of your own pocket. Most deductibles are between $500-$1,000. The amount of collision coverage you will need will depend on several factors. One is the value of your vehicle and if you fully own it. These factors will play a role in the amount of insurance you need.

Comprehensive coverage is used in the event of theft, fire, or something else besides a collision to your vehicle. These days many things happen to our vehicles that are out of our control. This is why comprehensive coverage is a very good idea. As you can see there is a wide variety of auto insurance coverage’s. The key is looking each one over and study it very closely. This way you can get the most benefit from all types of auto insurance.
